In our opinion, it is very important for us, consumers, to be able to identify the various plastics we purchase - not in any detail, but just to ensure that when we purchase goods made of plastic (or packaged in plastic), we can know (or find out) whether our recycling collector or drop-off recycling centre accepts that particular plastic for recycling.
As consumers, we should try to avoid those plastics that are not widely recycled or recovered - especially when purchasing goods with a short lifespan.
